Today's Senior

The old rocking chair will be empty today
For this senior is no longer in it.
She's off to the golf club her matches to play
With birdies and pars she'll win it.

No one can shove this senior back on the shelf.
She is versatile, forceful, dynamic.
That isn't a pie in the oven, you know-
Her baking today is ceramic.

You won't see her trundling off early to bed
From a place in a warm chimney nook.
Her computer clackety-clacks through the night
For this senior is writing a book.

She isn't content with crumbs of old thought
With meager and second-hand knowledge.
So don't bring your mending for her to do
For this senior has gone back to college!
